While many guests come to Bali to see the sights, they may not get a chance to experience life as a Balinese. With this special itinerary I’ve created, I hope to combine both and give you a peek into daily Balinese life with a trip to my home town of Munduktemu,an overnight stay with a local family and stops at many key landmarks on our beautiful island.
Munduktemu ridge mountains is a remote village in the northwest of Bali set on a ridge running down from the western of Pupuan town. The ridge tumbles steeply on either side into the valleys below, where distant coffee and clove plantations create a spectacular scene both to the east and the west.

Firstly, I will take you to our world-famous pilgrimage temple Tanah Lot. This temple is set on a large offshore rock and has been part of Balinese mythology for centuries. We will then drive through Kerambitan village in Tabanan regency, famous for its stunning view of rice paddy fields on either side of the road . After about an hour's drive, we make a stop at the quiet Sanda village, to have lunch in one of the local restaurants, where you get to see the different dishes we enjoy as locals. Next, we continue the trip to Pupuan to see beautiful rice paddy terraces on the way to my home town Munduktemu. From the main road, we will take a leisurely 1 km stroll to my family farm, which is a salak fruit, or snake fruit farm. This unique fruit is as common to us as apples or oranges are to Americans in the U.S. Strawberry-sized and fig-shaped, the fruit comes encased in vivid, nutty-brown scales, not unlike that of a cobra or python. Heaps of salaks turn up daily at countless local markets, but here you will get to see how we grow them. In the evening I will take you to another relaxed village called Pupuan in the Tabanan regency, where you can stay in one the local guest houses to experience life with a Balinese family. The next day, we drive back from Pupuan to your hotel via Munduk to see the tallest waterfall in Bali, the gorgeous twin mountain lakes Buyan and Tamblingan as well as Lake Bratan, which boasts Bali's famous "temple on a lake" - Puru Ulun Danu Bratan. Our last stop will be at Jatiluwih, a UNESCO world heritage site boasting beautiful contoured terraces that make up the largest rice paddy fields in Asia.
